History
Yakima Valley Technical Skills Center (YV-TECH) began receiving students in 1976 using facilities at Yakima Valley Community College (YVCC.) YV-TECH’s new facilities were constructed during the school year of 1977-78 and began its operation in the new facilities the school year of 1978-79 with 6 programs that has grown today to a total of 17. YV-TECH is one of ten skills centers in the state of Washington that came into existence because of the need for local school districts to join together to offer programs that were too expensive for them to operate individually.
YV-TECH was initially the creation of ten school districts: East Valley, Highland, Naches, Selah, Toppenish, Union Gap, Wapato, West Valley, Yakima and Zillah who formed a Cooperative Agreement for the operation of YV-TECH. Over the years, Granger, Grandview, Mt. Adams, Prosser and Sunnyside School Districts have also entered into our cooperative.
