This program prepares students for entry-level medical positions or further medical education as well as eligibility for the NAC test. The course prepares the student to be a Washington State Nurse Assistant Certified. Your education and preparation begins in the classroom and a medical care laboratory. You will then complete 90 hours of “hands-on” training in a local nursing home facility. Studies include introduction to nursing, ethical and legal issues, medical terminology, basic hu man needs and communications, safety and mobility, measuring and recording vital signs, and other special care procedures. The Medical Sciences - Nursing program is offered at YV-TECH in Yakima and at our location in Sunnyside.

Equivalency Credits: 1 credit Lab Science / .5 credit Health
College Credits: Available to those who qualify

Certified Nursing Assistant graduates are in high demand. Every Yakima Valley Technical Skills Center student who obtains their NAC and wants employment will find ample opportunities in Washington State. Students can work days, evenings, nights, and weekends with a variety of shift options.

Nursing experience at Kennewick General Hospital, Kittitas Valley Community Hospital, Home Health nurse, Pediatric Lab nurse, Surgery Clinic nurse, Long-term care nurse at Summitview Health Care Center 1991-97. Ms. Congleton graduated from Columbia Basin College in 1979 with Licensed Practical Nurse degree, graduated from Yakima Valley Community College in 1994 with Registered Nurse degree. In 2000 she earned her continuing Washington State Vocational Teaching Certificate through Central Washington University. Lora has been teaching the Medical Nursing Science program at YV-TECH since 1997.
Graduated from North Seattle Community College with a AAS-Nursing degree/LPN License in 2007. Beth joined YV-Tech in 2011 and is the clinical instructor at Landmark Care Center. She also teaches Nursing during the YV-Tech Summer School as a part of the Healthcare Camp.
Melissa Ojeda is a 2011 graduate from Yakima Valley Community College with a Registered Nurse Degree. As a Registered Nurse, she has worked for Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center, as well as East Valley School District. Melissa is also a product of our own Yakima Career and Technical Education system.
