Culinary Arts Management

Course Description

The program is designed to help high school students who have an interest in pursuing a career in food service gain an understanding of the industry through education as well as direct exposure. In the kitchen, students create their own food products from scratch. 

The course is designed to teach students the fundamentals needed to work and succeed in various areas of the food service operation involving restaurants, catering, kitchen, and bakery. 

Sessions Offered: 8:00-10:30AM / 12:00-2:30PM / 3:00-6:10 (Mon-Thurs) Baking Class

Length of Program: 1-2 years

Equivalency Credits: .25 credit algebra

College Credits: Available to those who qualify



Employment Outlook

The outlook is excellent for Culinary Arts. Food Services are one of the fastest growing areas of our economy. The job market is in high demand for skilled and knowledgeable employees to fill culinary positions.

Career Opportunities: Culinary Arts prepares students for jobs as personal chefs, catering operations, line chefs, bakers, servers, wine stewards, and managers.

Students are prepared to enroll in post-secondary culinary and baking programs

A graduate of Washington State University's School of Hospitality Business Management, Ned began his career at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco. His experience includes working with corporate and private restaurants, including Restaurants Unlimited based in Seattle. The concepts are upscale, trend setting restaurants emphasizing fresh, innovative foods using results oriented management practices. His family operated 901 Pasta restaurant here in Yakima for 20 years.
